About the photographer

holiday-086

Who am I?

I’m Natalie Manuel and Animus Photography is the name of my collection of animal photographs - a collection that is always and will always be a work in progress.

I am based in Australia and am a self taught photographer.

I have exhibited internationally and been published locally and soon, internationally.

What does Animus mean?

I chose the name Animus Photography to represent my work.  Animus/Anima refers to an idea by psychologist Carl Jung.  The anima and animus are the male and female expressions of the true inner personality and self of an individual within the unconscious mind.

My photography focuses on the individuality of each animal, rather than the outer ’species’,  and so the name arose from this idea.

Are these wild shots?

No, I am primarily a zoo photographer.  Because I am  interested in the individual animal and the expression of this individuality,  the ‘location’ of the animal is secondary to me.   My photography is not about making a statement about captivity or freedom, but about the importance of each animal within each species.     In using zoo animals, I do ‘give back’ by using some of my works to raise money for local conservation groups.

Dog Photography

I also enjoy dog photography and cater to the show world by specialising in ringside movement photos.   I occasionally dabble in pet dog photography, as well as photographing my own three Collie Roughs.

Where can you find me?

I have a number of profiles on the web where you can keep track of my artwork.    The blog is your best bet, but if you can also find me on:
